President Kenyatta highlights Africa’s progress in defeating malaria

Addis Ababa, 06 February 2022 His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, Chair of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), Sunday announced the progress made in responding to malaria amidst the COVID-19 public health emergency. The fourth annual Africa Malaria Progress Report highlights the achievements, challenges, and future directions in responding to the disease and the broader health and development agenda. Since the launch of the Zero Malaria Starts with Me Campaign in 2018 by African Presidents, 23 countries have launched the initiative.

RBM Partnership Board thanks outgoing and welcomes new Board Members

In view of the foreseen rotations off the RBM Partnership to End Malaria Board in 2022, at its 21st Meeting held on 3 December 2021, the Board voted in four new Members.

For a term of three years effective 3 December 2021 until 3 December 2024:

Malaria’s deadly toll, greatest on African children, heightens urgency to do more to end the preventable disease

Geneva, 6 December 2021 - The RBM Partnership to End Malaria is calling for urgent action in response to new findings showing that malaria kills more children than previously estimated. This is coupled with a rise in malaria infections and deaths in 2020, mostly due to the knock-on effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

RBM Partnership welcomes Gavi’s decision to fund malaria vaccine programme in Africa

Geneva, 2 December 2021 - The RBM Partnership to End Malaria welcomes today’s decision by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to fund a new malaria vaccine programme, which will support countries to implement the newly approved RTS,S malaria vaccine for children under 5 in Africa. The deployment of RTS,S as a complementary paediatric malaria prevention tool, used in combination with other proven tools, is an important addition to the fight against malaria.

Historic moment for the global malaria community as first malaria vaccine recommended for widespread use among children in Africa

Geneva, 6 October 2021 – The RBM Partnership to End Malaria welcomes today’s historic recommendation by the World Health Organization (WHO) to scale up deployment of the first-ever malaria vaccine as a complementary prevention tool for children under 5 in sub-Saharan Africa and other regions with moderate to high P. falciparum malaria transmission  .
